Services Provided
Cranbrook Security & Safety (CSS) officers provide a variety of services to members of the Cranbrook Educational Community including but not limited to:
- Emergency Response
- Cranbrook Security is the first responder to all campus emergencies including but not limited to medicals, slip & fall, suspicious persons, fire alarms, lost/missing persons, motor vehicle accidents, violent intruder, lockdown, shelter in place, etc.
- Call Cranbrook Security immediately at 248.645.3170 when an emergency occurs. If you are in immediate danger call Bloomfield Hills Public Safety by dialing 911.
- Safety Escorts
- CSS provides afterhours Safety Escort Program for members of the Cranbrook Educational community. If you are concerned about your safety as you walk throughout the campus area, call Cranbrook Security 248.645.3170 and request a safety escort. The first available security officer will be sent to escort you to your destination.
- Unlock/ Lockup
- In the event you need access to a secure location on campus call Cranbrook Security at 248.645.3170 for assistance. •
- Jumpstart Service
- Cranbrook Security offers free 24/7/365 jumpstart service to any vehicle located on campus. Call 248.645.3170 and a Security Officer will be dispatched to your location.
- Incident Reports
- Cranbrook Security will take a report for all of the following incidents; theft, damaged property, accidents, injuries, lost or found item, and all other matters outlined above under ‘Emergency Response’. Call 248.645.3170 and a Security Officer will be dispatched to your location.

- Welfare and Home Security Checks
- Call Cranbrook Security or Bloomfield Hills Public Safety immediately if you are concerned for the wellbeing of a member of the Cranbrook Community
- Although Cranbrook Security conducts patrols across all areas of the campus on a daily basis, Cranbrook residents can email security@cranbrook.edu if they are planning on being out of town for an extended period of time. Cranbrook Security will conduct regular exterior checks of the residential unit during this time.
- ID’s
- For safety, convenience and to access Cranbrook’s wealth of resources all campus faculty, staff, and students are required to have a Cranbrook Issued ID Card. You can obtain you ID card at the Cranbrook Security Office.
- Contractor ID’s are issued through the Cranbrook Security Office. For more information, click here.
- Keys and Access Cards
- Approved keys and or access cards can be picked up at the Security & Safety Office. For more information on keys and card access contact Cranbrook Security at 248.645.3170.
- Special Events
- Cranbrook Security provides security coverage for all requested special events throughout the community. If an event is serving alcohol a security officers must be present for the duration of the event, unless otherwise determined by the Director of Security & Safety.
- Optional pet registration
- Cranbrook residents now have the option to easily register their pets. The goal of the program is twofold. First the Security & Safety Department will be able to identify lost animals in a timely manner and reunite them with their owners. Second the registration database will provide first responders with a database of animals in a building in the event of a fire or other structural emergency.
- For those residents who wish to register their pet, please fill out this form or drop it off in person at the Security Office located in the Valley. For those emailing the form back, Security will send your registration tag back to you in the mail.
- Please note this program is for residents only and is optional.
- Hazardous Waste & Material
- Cranbrook Security will pick up any marked hazardous material and store it for removal. If your department needs a hazardous material pickup call 248.645.3170 or email security@cranbrook.edu. All pickups will be complete within 24 hours. A Hazardous Material Pickup Sheet must accompany all requests.
MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS)
By law all occupational users of chemicals need to know what a Material Safety Data Sheet is and have access to such Sheets for all of the chemicals they use. The MSDS contains information on the potential hazards and how to work safely with the chemical product. MSDS information applicable to Cranbrook is stored in the following electronic database.
