Statement of Shared Responsibility
Fulfilling our mission requires a commitment to sharing responsibility. Cranbrook is a diverse community that values individual perspectives, requires collaborative work, and centers on shared community values. Students, faculty, staff, and visitors who enter this intellectual and social community commit to an exchange of ideas and acknowledge that living and working within a community requires an implicit agreement to cooperate for the common good, even when individual compromise is necessary. This builds sensitivity to the needs of others and respectful judgment before action.
All members are expected to maintain high standards of personal conduct, which should reflect maturity and respect for the rights, dignity, and needs of all community members. The conduct of community members is guided by our values and purpose and further defined in our Cranbrook Educational Community (CEC) Code of Conduct and program area-specific community guidelines. These guidelines vary and are defined by each program area based on the respective academic, cultural, scientific, and professional practices and developmental learning stages of each program area’s stakeholders.
Cranbrook affirms that all members of the educational community share the responsibility to create an environment conducive to both academic freedom and each community member’s unobstructed access to their respective programmatic offerings. We also acknowledge that neither freedom nor access is absolute in the accredited learning environments on our campus.
CEC and program area-specific policies and procedures are developed to support such learning and adapted to reflect the specific requirements of each program area.
